Gyokudō studied the nihonga style of painting under Bairei Kōno and later the kanō style with Gahō Hashimoto. His style was closer to nihonga than kanō. He joined the then new Nihon Bijutsuin (Japan Fine Art Institute) and became a teacher at the Tokyo Bijutsu Gakkō (the forerunner of the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music). This gallery includes thirteen of Gyokudō’s paintings of flowers and (or) birds. Click on a picture to enlarge it.
